Our Origins
The department arose as one of the founding disciplines of the TH (Technische Hochschule) Darmstadt at the end of the 19th century. We have been shaping the engineering field at the TU Darmstadt and the progress of one of the most dynamic metropolitan regions in Europe in the areas of construction, environment and geodesy.
Our Achievements
Our achievements in engineering research and teaching are the basis for our high national and international reputation.
We concentrate on engineering system solutions for the built-up environment in the system Earth, from the collection of scientific results to their application in engineering practice.

Our particular focal points in teaching and research include basic engineering solutions for functional, safe, energy-efficient and resource-conserving shaping of the built-up environment. They deal with the planning, construction, operation, maintenance and dismantling of structures and systems.
