Project content Water supply and removal is a tremendous challenge for fast growing mega-cities: the supply and removal infrastructure can barely keep up with the growth, local water resources are limited. SEMIZENTRAL was developed as a solution approach. It is characterised by flexibility, adaptability as well as resource efficiency. The integration of water supply, sewage treatment and waste treatment creates synergy effects; 30 to 40% water is saved and self-sufficient energy operation is possible. The approach is realized as a light tower project on a 1:1 scale. The project includes the conceptualisation and detail planning for a semi-centralised Resource Recovery Center (RRC) in Qingdao, China. Approval processes, the realisation and the operation of the RRC are accompanied scientifically, and the approach is evaluated, optimized and further developed in a semi-centralised manner.
