In the BMBF project WOBeS three research groups are working together in the field of wastewater technology. The aim is to improve energy efficiency of wastewater treatment plants, especially the aeration system. In interdisciplinary cooperation, a photogrammetric method using drones is being developed to detect damage to diffusers at the bottom of aeration tanks at an early stage by observing the bubble pattern at the water surface. In a further subproject, the material and layout properties of membrane diffusers are investigated using methods from silicone glass facade construction. The material behaviour of diffusers for wastewater treatment is investigated by tension and bulge tests under uni- and biaxial load and correlated with aeration parameters relevant for wastewater treatment.
