Mobility and Transportation

Planning, design, building and operation of transportation systems are a central task of any capable society. Sustainability in this field does not only mean efficient design of the transportation infrastructure by means of using new materials, technologies and management approaches, but also increasingly a concertedly influenced demand with regards to mobility of humans and goods.

Within this encompassing scope the Department Civil and Environmental Engineering works on new solutions for mobility and transportation. The department provides broad support for the three traffic related fields of study (traffic planning and traffic technology, road construction and railroad systems and railroad technology) with regards to technical design and area planning integration. In addition, there is a close collaboration with numerous disciplines of other departments, e.g. logistics, automotive engineering, aeronautical engineering, political and social sciences.
