„Money, money, money –How can I finance my studies?“
Online event for international students on 12.12.2024
2024/12/09
Dear Students, Are you interested in building a project from scratch and showcasing your skills on an international stage? iGEM is the world’s largest competition for students in the field of Synthetic Biology. Every year, over 400 teams from around the world gather in Paris in October for the Grand Jamboree. After TU Darmstadt's successful participation in the 2024 competition, we are preparing for iGEM 2025 and are looking for motivated students from all disciplines (starting from the 3rd semester of bachelor’s studies).
You might be wondering why you received this message, even though the competition focuses on Synthetic Biology. This is because iGEM is more than just the biological side of things. The goal is to create a holistic project that has societal value, and the topics are virtually limitless. Projects can range from new therapeutic approaches and solutions for environmental and climate problems to even space applications.
The projects are viewed not only from a strictly scientific laboratory perspective but also through lenses such as entrepreneurship, stakeholder management, education, software, and sustainable development. This means that in addition to laboratory work, tasks like organizing workshops, running campaigns, and developing business plans are required. For projects with societal relevance, discussions with experts and stakeholders are essential. Additionally, every project needs a platform, so creating a project wiki and designing graphics is also part of the competition.
A diverse team is therefore essential, and the input from other disciplines is invaluable. If you are interested in this international student competition, join us at our information session on the Botanical Garden Campus and see if it is the right fit for you.
Information Session:
Date: 10.12.2024
Time: 17:30
Location: Room B101 52 (Small Lecture Hall)
At the session, you will learn what participants can expect during the project, how the team will be organized, and how much fun an interdisciplinary project can be. You will also have the opportunity to ask former team members any questions. Snacks will be provided.
If you cannot attend the information session, you can leave your email address at , and we will invite you to the application phase when it begins. https://www.survio.com/survey/d/S7M2D0L1A5T4U3A2P
