31st General assembly of the Friends of the Insitute of Geotechniks

2025/04/10

General assembly, presentation of the student sponsorship awards and network meeting in the experimental hall of the Institute of Geotechnical Engineering

At the 31st general assembly of the Friends of the Institute of Geotechnics at the Technical University of Darmstadt e.V. on March 13, 2025, awards were presented for the best student achievements in the field of geotechnics.

Sebastian Clappier received the prize for the best Master's thesis for his work entitled “Extension of the application limits of correlations for the estimation of soil strength and shear parameters using indirect probing methods”.

Lisa Klantke and Lukas Knitterscheidt were awarded the prize for the best bachelor theses.

  • Lisa Klantke: “Development of a Python tool for the calculation of pile embankments according to European guidelines”
  • Lukas Knitterscheidt: “Numerical investigations into the behavior of monopile foundations for offshore wind turbines in sand under high cyclic and seismic loads”.

Following the award ceremony, all prizewinners presented their work in short talks.

Another key topic of the event was the Association’s continued commitment to promoting international academic exchange. In the past year, six students received support to spend at least one semester abroad. During the meeting, the students shared their experiences abroad in brief two-minute presentations, offering valuable insights into academic life and culture at partner universities around the world.

Participating students:

Milena Bauersachs, Dilara Koctürk, Hanna Brömse, Johannes Otte, Finn Wiegland and Eric Kuhnert

Following the official program, around 90 members came together in the geotechnical testing hall for an informal get-together. There was plenty of opportunity for professional and personal discussions over good food and stimulating conversations. A particular highlight of the evening was the guided tour of the newly equipped soil mechanics laboratory in the teaching laboratory building, which was met with great interest by the participants.

The event once again showed how valuable the direct dialog between students and geotechnical engineering experts is – and how important such encounters are for the objectives of the Förderverein.
