Darmstadt. On Saturday, June 28, the Darmstadt railroad operations field at Mainzer Straße 126a will open its doors from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. to anyone who wants to know how railroad operations work and what happens in the event of a signal fault.

On an area of around 500 square meters, visitors are introduced to the world of railroad operations, in which true-to-original signal boxes have been recreated, model trains run through a complex network and a realistic replica of over 134 kilometers of track impressively illustrates the entire rail traffic process. You feel like you are right in the middle of the action and experience how journeys are coordinated, signals are set and trains are safely controlled. Experts explain how delays occur and who ensures that trains reach their destination despite the complex processes. In addition to guided tours, there are also lectures, insights into rail traffic technology and personal discussions with train dispatchers. Representatives from the Technical University of Darmstadt (Institute for Railway Systems and Railway Technology, editor's note) and the Academic Working Group for Rail Transport will also explain research, teaching and training relating to railroads.

The Darmstadt Railway Operations Field is a joint project of the Academic Working Group for Rail Transport, DB Training and the Institute for Railway Systems and Railway Technology at TU Darmstadt.
