Prof. Dorota Iwaszczuk’s group at the Dreiländertagung Conference in Muttenz (Switzerland)
2025/07/15
Between 3rd and 5th June 2025, the remote sensing and image analysis group (FuB) participated in the Dreiländertagung (DLT) held in Muttenz near Basel. This year’s DLT was hosted by the Fachhochschule Nordwestschweiz (FHNW). All DLT conferences are jointly organized by three professional societies:
- DGPF – German Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing and Geoinformation
- SGPF – Swiss Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing
- OVG – Austrian Society for Surveying and Geoinformation
The DLT serves as a key platform for knowledge exchange between the German-speaking countries, aiming to showcase the latest advancements in research and technology in the fields of photogrammetry, remote sensing, and geoinformation, while also discussing future trends and encouraging interdisciplinary networking.
The conference officially commenced at noon on 3rd June, preceded by a joint dinner the evening before. In the morning of the 3rd June was a networking event, organized by the DGPF Nachwuchsnetzwerk (Young Talent Network) to support Bachelor’s, Master’s, and PhD students in building collaborations and sharing ideas. Activities included a poster session, during which Yannick Treitz, M.Sc. student at TU Darmstadt, received the Young Talent Network Best Poster Award for his poster titled “Individual Tree Crown Segmentation with Hyperspectral Data, Dimensionality Reduction and Segment Anything Model”.
Thereafter, the DLT conference featured keynote speeches, thematic sessions, poster presentations, and industry talks. From the FuB group, the following contributions were made:
- presented her research titled: EN: “Fusion of LiDAR and Multispectral Images for Analysis of Plant Conditions at Close Range” // DE: “Fusion von LiDAR und Multispektralbildern zur Analyse des Pflanzenzustands im Nahbereich” Mona Goebel
- presented on the topic: “Advancing Individual Tree Crown Segmentation Integrating Hyperspectral Image Fusion with Dimensionality Reduction”. Rewanth Ravindran
A highlight of the conference was the awarding of the prestigious Karl‐Kraus‐Nachwuchsförderpreis (KKN Prize), which recognizes outstanding Bachelor’s or Master’s thesis work in photogrammetry and remote sensing. Julian Schnell (TU Darmstadt) was one of the ten finalists, and received a free yearly membership to the DGPF for his Master's thesis:
“Deep Learning-based Feature Importance Analysis for Remote Sensing”.
The award ceremony took place during the Gala Dinner, which provided a relaxed setting for networking and informal discussions among participants.
At the closing ceremony, it was officially announced that the next DGPF conference in 2026 will be hosted by the FuB group at the TU Darmstadt. Prof. Dorota Iwaszczuk presented the initial plans and extended an open invitation to attend the conference, scheduled to take place in Darmstadt from 25th to 27th March 2026.
