Duration 42 Months, starting 1.9.2021
Project content
Pavement is the most representative and critical element of roads. Even if other discrete engineering structures like bridges or tunnels are also important, the pavement is the fundamental continuous engineering structure that has the duty to carry the whole road traffic throughout kilometers of road infrastructure. Therefore, within the Horizon 2020 project „InfraROB“ (Grant agreement ID: 955337), optimization and automation possibilities are investigated, which contribute to the improvement of safety, maintenance planning and paving processes.
The role of the TU Darmstadt is to contribute to the automation process in asphalt paving. To accomplish this, the influence of the paver screed's compaction units on the mix is to be systematically investigated in field tests. In order to gain an understanding of the compaction process during asphalt paving, various laboratory tests will be carried out to simulate the movement behavior of the screed. In addition, the process is to be mapped by numerical simulations in order to gain a detailed insight into the movements of the mix.
